Lakeside Daisy Day - May 10, 2008

The Fifth Annual Lakeside Daisy Day will be held on Saturday, May 10. In celebration of the blooming of the rare Lakeside Daisy which grows only one place in the United States, in the limestone on the Marblehead Peninsula, the Village of Marblehead is excited to present a day full of fun, history and horticultural events.

Lakeside Daisy Day is a cooperative event between the Lighthouse Historical Society, The Marblehead Bank, LaFarge North America, The Ottawa County Visitors Bureau, The Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, and Marblehead Village Council and staff. Members of the Village of Marblehead Daisy Day Committee, now known as Daisy Day, Inc., are holding a raffle to generate funds for the James Park Restroom Renovation Project. Only 500 tickets will be sold at $10 each. The winner will be drawn at the conclusion of the 2008 Daisy Festival on May 10. All proceeds will be donated to the James Park Restroom Fund Project. Marblehead Village Council have applied for a Nature Works Grant to help fund the project. Matching funds are required by the grant, and it is the desire of Daisy Day Inc. to help fund this cause.

Grand prize in the raffle is an original oil painting by local artist Ben Richmond. Ben and his wife, Wendy, have donated the painting to the committee. Richmond has also done a sketch of the proposed park renovations. The drawing will be on display soon at The Marblehead Bank. The Day of the festival, visit the Daisy Day information booth to view the painting and to purchase raffle tickets.
